But despite careful planning, baby Johnathan still arrived in his grandmother's Ford Fiesta at New Cross Hospital's car park.

The 6lb 4oz bundle of joy was delivered by a midwife who happened to be waiting for a taxi home following a nightshift on Sunday.

Ms Jeavons, of St Chad's Road, Bilston, quickly realised the baby was on his way as she headed for hospital on Saturday. She said: "As soon as we got in the car park, my mum sent my boyfriend off to find some help. Me and my sister were in the back seat and my mum draped my dressing gown across the car. Luckily, there was a midwife waiting for a taxi and she rushed over."

Baby Johnathan arrived in the early hours of Sunday and was taken to the maternity unit with 34-year-old dad Daryll.

Ms Jeavons, who has two other sons, four-year-old Jack and two-year-old Oliver, said: "It was quite a shock and I can't believe he was born in the car park, especially as Oliver was born in the lift at New Cross."
